Greetings from Smrikve... sve najljepše... auguri 2026

Dear Smrikve Friends,
It is greetings time… and time to prepare for another journey around the Sun…
I keep following the new pages of tennis history written by the Smrikva Bowl seeds… and the results they are achieving always surpass my expectations…
I have always believed in dreams… and inspiration is that invisible force I trust… For 30 years, my family has kept our family gardens open for tennis families from all around the world… and together we have created many lifelong memories…
Many Smrikva Bowl players are now examples and inspiration for new generations… and I can already envision that the 31st Smrikva Bowl in 2026 will be another wonderful year filled with very talented children…
I hope to see some Smrikve friends again for their holidays in our Smrikve Village… each of your returns brings a smile to my face…
Inspired by our journey, I have been quietly shaping a legendary book about Smrikve… when the moment chooses itself, I hope you may enjoy it… and maybe even help me bring the book itself to life…
I want to express gratitude to all of you who, in your own ways, help the Smrikva dream grow… your gestures, however small or great, are felt deeply here… and thank you for that…
Happy holidays and best wishes for the New Year!

Dragi prijatelji Smrikve,
Sretni blagdani i sve najbolje u Novoj godini!
Mio

We collected 2025 olives and made olive oil that will end up in bottles for the 31st Smrikva Bowl 2026 Ambassadors - Istrian Smrikve olive oil - one of the best in the World. Smrikva "seeds of the Legends" are making it more and more special

We had 2 very long collection days in Smrikve this year on 17 and 18th of October… it was again a very special collection with a lot people with passion who contributed to make this annual harvest great again…

… over the 2 collection days we had each day over 30 family members and friends helped us… the weather was beautiful… and mostly due to huge road works we made a bit less pictures this time…

and this is the story of the 2026 Smrikva Bowl olive oil production :)…

In Smrikve is considered 2026 production because the next year every new Smrikva Bowl Ambassador will receive as per tradition a memory bottle of the olive oil we made this year during the Ambassador’s nomination ceremony.

Collecting olives is always wonderful family and friends time…
… and the team we have is always a great team… and this year we had a great team too…

we started our collection in Valbandon and LOUNGE… we had two teams… and the teams united in the area of the monument… the second harvest day… we again split in two teams… one team was in Fazana and another in Smrikve… and later on we united in the valley… …

this time on both days we had between 10 and 11 people using “tresač” – electric harvests stick… and usually we had between 5 and 6 people using “tresač”…
and each day at around 11:30 we had our brunch time (“marenda”)

and after every collection day there is the important cleaning leaves moment…

Back in 2020 we had our record year in terms of quantity of the olives collected… it was over 5000 kg… and last year we overcome by far our record in our history in terms of quantity of olives collecting over 7800 kg… this year we made a bigger cutting maintenance in LOUNGE… and the quantities we collected was below last year record but not far away from our previous records…

… this year it was not an easy year… and a lot of work was required to allow the fruits to resist from blossoming period till harvest… over 140 trees reached important dimensions… and there are still young trees developing…

Our Legendary olive trees hold names of over 2100 players coming from 112 countries and all the continents are for another great tennis year more special…

In Smrikve we produce Istrian olive oil that has over 2000 years old tradition in olive oil making and was considered among the best one in the Roman Empire and today is still considered among the best one in the World.

During the Smrikva Bowl we use to give to every Smrikva Bowl Ambasador a bottle of oil as a memory to their Smrikva Bowl.

We are already able to produce special and limited collections of the Smrikva Bowl olive oil from the Smrikva Bowl centuries old olive trees planted by some tennis Champions of today… and in the following I am pleased to share the story of the Heritage Collection bottles…

… so far 51 players reached TOP 100 ATP/WTA… 101 reached TOP 200 ATP/WTA… holding 139 professional ATP/WTA titles (7 Grand Slam title)… 38 children holds a total of 54 Grand Slam titles and over 385+ players study or completed their studies in the US thanks to their tennis skills.

The tradition of the olive oil production started to develop in Istria during the time of the Emperor Augustus. Thanks to the olive oil Pula was for few centuries one of the richest towns in the Roman Empire and this is one of the main reasons why Pula got its magnificent Arena.

It is important to say that at the time olive oil was not used only as the salad dressing as we use it today but it was used also for lighting thus it was important as today are important the sources of energy we use. It was the gold of its period. This explain the status and importance Pula had during the Roman Empire time.

Romans had deep knowledge of olive oil making and we do know that they had five different olive oils quality ranking:
1. Oleum ex albis ulivis: first quality olive oil made by green and white olives
(THIS IS WHAT WE DO FROM THE SMRIKVA BOWL OLIVES)
2. Viride: olive oil made by the olives that started to become black
3. Maturum: olive oil made by mature olives
4. Caducum: olive oil made by olives collected from the ground
5. Cibarium: olive oil made by rotten olives

In 2005, for the 10th Smrikva Bowl anniversary, we started the tradition of planting an old Olive tree. The Olive tree selected was older than the oldest man living on the earth today.

On Brioni island there is an olive tree from the beginning of the 4th century that is one of the oldest olive trees in Europe… and many Smrikva Bowl kids visit it every year…

Marcus Valerius Martialis, native from Cordoba, who lived in the 1st century AD, during the Roman Empire times, celebrated Istrian olive oil with the following verses: “Uncto Corduba Laetior Venafro Histra Nec Minus Absolute Testa”. The translation in English would be: “Cordoba, you being more fertile than the olive oil region of Venafro and so perfect as the oil (amphora) from Istria”.

The story of:
Smrikva Bowl Heritage Olive Oil – “seeds of the Legends” Limited edition
… it is the story of one of the most prestige and rare olive oil in the World with very unique story… and the symbolic donation value as of today is set at 47 units for 200 ml collection bottle… 47 is determined as the total number of Grand Slam titles conquered by the children who planted the trees and thanks to our talented seeds it is updated almost after every Grand Slam of the season…

Smrikve, 30th of June 2005 – 28th of April 2019 – 2025

This is the story of one of the most unique olive oils in the world…

On 30th of June in 2005, for the 10th Smrikva Bowl anniversary, we started a tradition of planting an Olive tree during our Smrikva Bowl Ambassador’s nomination ceremony…

and that year we started to donate to each player’s family a limited collection bottle 375 ml of our Malmsey wine with hope to be recalled one day when some of the SB seeds from that generation win a Grand Slam event and make that bottle very prestige with their own results…
In 2006 small olive oil bottles became part of the Smrikva Bowl Ambassador’s nomination ceremony and we started to donate to each Smrikva Bowl kid this special bottle with indication of their generation year…

Both our wine & olive oil gift bottles are usually limited between 90 and 150 pieces… and it is thanks to our “seeds of the Legends” that our olive oil and wine are getting more and more special day after day… and are currently present in 112 country and six continents thanks to our Smrikva Bowl seeds…

The Olive tree selected are traditionally older then our players. The age of the tree is a symbol of intergenerational responsibility.

Every person is born without knowing anything about life on this earth and it is the responsibility of every generation to understand and to learn to preserve all that each of us is born with.
In March 2019 we bottled for the first time the super special limited olive oil bottles collection with aim to make it a tradition.
At the time there were 14 generations (over 1440 players) who had their olive trees when the story of limited collections started.

As you are starting to understend… children who planted our olive trees are the one who are making with their life stories our collection bottles so special.
As of March 2019, there were over 1930 players from 87 countries and 6 continents who participated Smrikva Bowl and on the first 14 collection bottles of 200 ml representing 14 generations was written the following:
Smrikva Bowl was founded in 1996 and over 1930 players from 87 countries and 6 continents participated so far. In 2005 Smrikva Bowl players started to plant olive trees and till 2019 there were 14 generations (over 1440 players) having their dedicated olive tree in Smrikve.
As of 18/03/2019, their track record* is:
• 30 (23) junior Grand Slam titles conquered by 23 (17) players
• 30 (13) professional ATP/WTA titles
• 45 (31) players reached TOP 200 ATP/WTA ranking & 21 (15) players reached TOP 100 ATP/WTA ranking
• 150+ (100+) players received scholarships to study in the US
Note – In brackets: 14 olive trees generations track record
… 500 ml of the heritage symbolic value was at the time 57,5…

The collection bottle symbolic donation value is linked to the number of Grand Slam conquered by Smrikva Bowl players at the time when the bottles are bottled… and on the first symbolic collection bottle donation value was 23… equal to 23 Grand Slam titles conquered by the time by the children who planted our trees… and I knew that year after year this number will increase and the bottles will help us to measure the growth of our living human SB tree around the globe…

All the Collection bottles are numbered and tracked… and the 1st limited edition bottles homes are the following:

Smrikva Bowl was founded in 1996 and this particular tradition started in 2005. So far 20 generations (over 2000 players) have their olive tree planted in Smrikve… and two generations 25th and 26th generation have also their tree dedicated in Smrikve (over 170 players) although those two editions were not played due to covid 19 pandemic… but both generations players who passed the Smrikva Bowl selection process were honored and have a dedicated tree living in Smrikve…

LEGENDARY SMRIKVE MALVAZIJA BOTTLES STORY…

In Smrikve we produce Istrian Malvazija (Malmsey) a white wine related with Venice Republic heritage… and also a very limited collection of Angvšta… a very special story is related to this wine and has roots in the story recorded by Pliny the Elder and is related to the Roman Empire and first Emperor Augustus’ wife Iulia Augusta – Livia Drusila…

During Smrikva Bowl we like to give a bottle of wine to every family on a departure day as a memory to their Smrikva Bowl.
Already today this limited collection donated bottles are something very special thanks to our kids who continue to love tennis game and continue to write the Smrikva Bowl story and the stories of this bottles with their results.

Before I give it to the family I like to share with them that some kids from this generation will win a Grand Slam title one day… and the value will be priceless in the long run and to keep it as a memory with hope the kids makes this dream true one day… and I believe they will…
