Tanasescu & Kuhn claim Teen Tennis titles

The Tennis Europe Junior Tour sprang back into life last week, with a total of four tournaments played across the continent.

The week’s most prestigious tournament was the Nike Junior International Teen Tennis in Bolton (GBR). The second Category 1 14 & Under event of the season, Teen Tennis once again attracted a strong field of players from all over the world, many of whom have travelled to play back-to-back Category 1 events here and in Tarbes.

Transatlantic players left their mark on the tournament, accounting for three of the four titles on offer. Of those Canada’s Maria Tanasescu was arguably the most impressive. Unseeded, she blasted her way through the girls’ singles draw, beating three seeds on her way to the final where she faced top seed Andja Karanusic (CRO). Their showdown will long be remembered at the tournament as a war of attrition, with the Canadian eventually emerging victorious after a punishing 7-6(3) 6-7(6) 7-6(4) battle to claim her first title on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour.

A day earlier, Tanasescu had teamed up with compatriot Bianca Vanessa Andreescu to claim the doubles title over home hopes Ali Collins & Alexandra Hunter. The Canadian pair picked up where they left off last summer, having formed a successful partnership that reaped four consecutive doubles titles on European soil.

In the boys’ event, second seed Nicola Kuhn (GER) eased to a 6-3 6-1 win over eighth seeded American Andrew Fenty. Fenty had caused a pair of upsets on his way to the final (notably top seed Yshai Oliel of Israel in the quarterfinals) but had no answer to the German, who will shoot several spots from his current ranking of 11 next Tuesday.

Kuhn fell just short of a title sweep, having earlier been beaten in the doubles final alongside partner Carlos Sanchez Jover (ESP). The pair had survived champion’s tie breaks in all three of their early matches but was beaten in straight sets by America’s Roscoe Bellamy & Keenan Mayo in the final.

Na terenima Impuls hola u Beogradu održano je državno prvenstvo Srbije u konkurenciji do 12 godina za sezonu 2014.

Kod dečaka odigran je veliki broj izjednačenih i neizvesnih mečeva, u istom ritmu protekao je I finalni susret. U borbi za trofej našli su se Goran Životić i Viktor Jović. Do viktorije Viktor je stigao rezultatom 3:6, 7:6(4), 6:1.

U polufinalu Životić je savladao Lazara Milićevića 6:1, 6:1, dok je Jović bio bolji od prezimenjaka Uroša Jovića 7:6(3), 6:1.

Singapur – Beograd, via Dubai, pa titula

Viktor Jović je osvojio titulu prvaka za 2014. godinu na Dvoranskom prvenstvu Srbije održanom u “Impuls Holu” na Novom Beogradu. Interesantan je put kojim je mališan stigao do Beograda.

Rođen 24. januara 2002. godine, tenisom je počeo da se bavi u Singapuru, gde mu je otac poslovno boravio.

– Počeo sam da igram tenis u Singapuru kada sam napunio četiri godine. Sada sam u Dubaiju, gde mi otac radi i tamo treniram šest puta nedeljno, a imam i kondicione pripreme tri puta nedeljno. Za sada uspevam da uskladim školu i obaveze na sportskom polju.

Viktoru je ovo najveći uspeh, ali namerava da nastupi i na letnjem prvenstvu.

– Kada se završi školska godina dolazim iz Dubaija u Srbiju u junu gde ću provesti tri meseca, a možda ću nastaviti da živim u Srbiji, a tata bi ostao u Dubaiju. Na neki način sam navikao na visoke temperature u Dubaiju, gde je sada blizu 40 stepeni Celzijusa, a leti je i 50. Dnevne obaveze u školi mi se završavaju oko 15 časova, zatim završavam zadatke, a uveče treniram, naravno napolju, ali su u to doba dana temperature vazduha podnošljive.

Viktoru je uzor Novak Đoković.

– Voleo bih da moj tenis bude kao Novakov. Jednostavno, nema slabog mesta u njegovoj igri. Svaki udarac je doveden do perfekcije, kondicija mu je fantastiučna, borbenost, samopouzdanje, ma, sve je vrhunsko…

Viktor je svojom igrom istakao i kandidaturu za dres sa grbom Srbije i sigurno je da će biti jedan od uzdanica reprezentacije u kategoriji dvanaestogodišnjaka.

Kada se ne iskoriste šanse ode titula

Goran Životić je izgubio finalni meč u tri seta. A imao je dve meč lopte koje, na svoju žalost, nije iskoristio. Naravno, u tenisu svoje šanse moraš da dovedeš do dobitka, inače…

– Propustio sam priliku, mogao sam i morao ovaj meč da dobijem. Ne bi mi bilo toliko krivo da nisam imao priliku, ali šta da se radi. I to je neko iskustvo koje će mi dobro doći. Kažu, na greškama se uči. Nadam se da će ovakvih propusta biti mnogo manje u budućnosti.

Goran je rođen 14. januara 2002. godine, a tenis je počeo da igra sa pet godina u sportskom društvu Partizan iz Žarkova. Sada mu je daleko lakše jer su mu roditelji otvorili teniske terene i sada trenira u TK Adventage. Finale Dvoranskog prvenstva Srbije je samo nastavak odličnih rezultata.

– Prošle godine, u Puli, na svetskom prvenstvu za desetogodinjake, osvojio sam prvo mesto. Sada sam takođe došao do završnice na prvenstvu Srbije i moja želja je da nastupim za reprezentaciju na prvenstvu Evrope.

Goran je učenik OŠ Miloš Crnjanski i za sada bez velikih napora uskladio je učenje i sport. Nikad nije zadovoljan postignutim. Svestan je da u tenisu samo rad i odricanje donosi uspeh.

– Za sada, moj najbolji, zapravo, najsigurniji udarac je dvoručni bekhend. Mnogo, zaista mnogo moram da radim na sebi kako bih napredovao. Ambiciju imam, samopouzdanje takođe, a samo radom, toga sam svestan, mogu postići nešto u tenisu. Koliko sam ambiciozan? Mnogo, a istovremeno sam s obe noge na zemlji.

Goran zna tenis i zna koliko može. Tu svoju ambiciju želi da pretvori u nešto opipljivo, da je pretoči u uspeh. A za to ima “štofa”.

Dvoransko prvenstvo Srbije u konkurenciji do 12 godina za takmičarsku 2014. održano je na terenima Impuls hola u Beogradu.

Kod devojčica trijumfovala je Teodora Vujičić. U ženskom finalu snage su odmerile Vujičićeva i Milana Vulin, a do trijumfa stigla je Teodora rezultatom 6:1, 2:6, 6:4.

U polufinalu Vujičićeva je savladala Anđelu Vidović 6:2, 6:2, dok je Milana bila bolja od Sofije Đunisijević 6:1, 6:1.

Teodora san pretvorila u javu

Teodora Vujičić je stigla do najvišeg stepenika. Osvojila je prvo mesto na Dvoranskom prvenstvu Srbije. Uspeh o kome je sanjala i san koji se ostvario.

– Da, sanjala sam da stignem do ove titule i san mi se ostvario. Zaista lep poklon za Novu godinu. Nije bilo lako. Naprotiv. Mojoj drugarici i suparnici u finalu sve čestitke. Odlučile su nijanse, a te nijanse su krasile moju igru. Naravno da sam prezadovoljna.

Teodora je rođena u Beogradu 28. jula 2002. godine, a svoje prve teiniske korake napravila je u TK Oazi. Sada je članica TK Kolonijal, a trener joj je Dejan Vukojičić.

-Ovaj uspeh mi je omogućio da igram za reprezentaciju Srbije, to mi je velika čast. Predstoje nam borbe na ekipnom prvenstvu Evrope gde su nam ambicije da stignemo što dalje. Pobeda na ovom prvenstvu mi je pokazala da mogu mnogo. Želim da nastavim sa uspešnim igrama i uz ETA turnire jedva čekam i prvenstvo države na otvorenom. Doduše, zbog mog načina igre više volim tvrde terene, ali kako sada dolazi sezona turnira na zemljanim podlogama mislim da ću se brzo adaptirati.

Teodora smatra da joj je glavno oružje forhend. Sa tim udarcem napada, a svesna je da mora popraviti bekhend. A uzori?

-Pre svih Novak Đoković i Serena Vilijams.

Dear Smrikve and Smrikva Bowl friends!

It is Greetings time… time to stay with the family… and it is time to recall moments of the journey… moments of the year…

During 2013 Smrikva kids wrote another page of the story of the “Legends of tomorrow”… and the story of the big little Champions of today ;)!…

The first tennis ball bounced in Smrikve just three decades… but since 1996, Smrikva Bowl – a particular tennis talents gatherings on our planet – per tradition gathers the seeds of the “Legends of tomorrow”…

Smrikva kids grow… and this year out of eight possible first places at junior Grand Slam tournaments they collected six of them… and one of them… a girl, who just turned sixteen, a week ago was crowned 2013 ITF World Champion…

…every December, Florida became the Kingdom of junior tennis… Smrikva kids also this year conquered many top places at: Eddie Herr International, “Little Mo” International, NIKE Junior Tour Master, Orange Bowl and Prince Cup – American Tennis Cup…

At the beginning of the year, in France, also Les Petit As – Tarbes and Super Open 12 – Auray 1st places trophies were conquered by Smrikva boys…

… and for the first time this year… there are several Smrikva kids with respectable ranking among “the big” ones… there are six of them among TOP 200 WTA and ATP players and 19 among TOP 500…

It is already possible to foresee that Smrikva kids will collect the most prestigious trophies of the tennis game… and more than one may write the name on the stars in the sky reserved to great tennis players… and some of them may be titled the “Legend” … I always believed that Smrikva kids will write life stories that will inspire generations to come by example…

…our highest aspirations may be hidden in the sunshine… many of us may never reach them, but we can all look up and appreciate the beauty of a dream, believe in dreams… and try to follow where they lead… enjoying the journey… and never forgetting that for our family and friends we are the sunshine the way we are…

Dragi prijatelji i poznanici Smrikvi i Smrikva Bowl-a,

Prosinac je vrijeme čestitanja… vrijeme želja… vrijeme koje rado provodimo uz svoje najmilije… i isto tako je vrijeme za prisjetiti se jedne godine…

…2013.godine… su djeca i prijatelji Smrikve zajedno sa svojim obiteljima ispisali još jednu stranicu priče “Legendi sutrašnjice” i velikih malih šampiona današnjice ;)!…

Prva teniska loptica je odskočila u Smrikvama prije manje od tri desetljeća… a od 1996.godine, Smrikva Bowl – taj čudesan susret teniskih talenata do 10 godina – tradicionalno okuplja sjeme “Legendi sutrašnjice”…

Djeca Smrikve rastu… i ove godine od osam mogućih prvih mjesta na juniorskim Grand Slam turnirima… djeca Smrikve su ih prikupila šest… i jedna od njih, prije tjedan dana, je počašćena titulom 2013 ITF World Champion…

…ljubitelji tenisa znaju da svakog prosinca, Florida postaje kraljevstvo juniorskog tenisa… i djeca Smrikve su i ove godine dostigla završnicu na: Eddie Herr International, “Little Mo” International, NIKE Junior Tour Master, Orange Bowl and Prince Cup – American Tennis Cup…

A početkom godine, u Francuskoj, su i najviše pehare turnira Les Petit As – Tarbes i Super Open 12 – Auray podigli dečki Smrikve…

Od ove godine… po prvi puta je šest djece Smrikve sve bliže vrhu svjetske ljestvice “velikih”… TOP 200 WTA e ATP… a 19 njih je ovog mjeseca među prvih 500 igrača svijeta…

Može se polako naslutiti… da će više djece Smrikve kroz vrijeme osvojiti najprestižnije turnire… više njih će upisati svoje ime na zvijezdama koje su rezervirane za velikane teniskog sporta… a nekoga će oslovljavati i “Legendom”… odavno vjerujem da će napisati priče koje će inspirirati svojim primjerom…

U zrakama svjetlosti lebde najviše aspiracije djece Smrikve, a i nas samih… mnogi ih možda nećemo dostići, ali svi možemo gledati daleko i prepoznati njihovu ljepotu, vjerovati u nadu… i pokušati slijediti snove… uživajući u putovanjima spoznaje… pamteći da smo za naše najbliže baš mi ta svjetlost… jednostavno onakvi kakvi jesmo…

… i još jednu želju za djecu Smrikve… da je nose u svojim dostignućima… kako nas primjerom svojim uči “čovijek” koji je prije par tjedana napustio život na zemlji prehodavši 95 proljeća pod zvijezdama… “Sport has the power to change the world, the power to inspire and the power to unite people in a way little else can – it is an instrument of peace.”

Cari amici di Smrikve e dello Smrikva Bowl!

E’ il tempo per gli Auguri… il tempo per stare insieme con i propri cari… ed e’ anche il momento per ricordare una parte del viaggio che fa parte della vita… un anno…

… 2013 era l’anno nel quale gli amici di Smrikve ed i ragazzi Smrikva insieme alle loro famiglie hanno scritto un’altra pagina della storia delle “Legende del domani” e dei grandi piccoli campioni di oggi ;) !…

La pallina di tennis ha rimbalzato a Smrikve per la prima volta meno di tre decennia fa… e dal 1996, Smrikva Bowl – uno dei piu’ particolari incontri under 10 del nostro pianeta – raduna per tradizione i semi delle “Legende del domani“…

I bimbi Smrikva crescono… quest’anno da otto possibili primi premi nel singolare ai tornei Grand Slam per i juniores… ne hanno collezionati sei… ed una di loro, appena sedicenne, venne incoronata nell’ultima settimana 2013 ITF World Champion…

…ogni Dicembre, Florida diventa il Regno del junior tennis… ed i ragazzi Smrikva anche quest’anno hanno conquistato le vette piu’ alte in molte categorie a: Eddie Herr International, “Little Mo” International, NIKE Junior Tour Master, Orange Bowl e Prince Cup – American Tennis Cup…

… all’inizio dell’anno, in Francia, le corone dei tornei Les Petit As – Tarbes e Super Open 12 – Auray sono state anche quelle conquistate dai ragazzi Smrikva…

E da quest’anno… per la prima volta sei ragazzi Smrikva si trovano tra “i grandi”… tra i primi 200 WTA e ATP… e 19 tra i primi 500…

Dopo 18 anni… e’ possibile scorgere… che diversi ragazzi Smrikva collezioneranno i piu’ prestigiosi trofei nel mondo del tennis… diversi scriveranno il proprio nome sulle stelle che nel cielo sono riservate ai grandi tennisti… e qualcuno verra chiamato “Legenda“… ho sempre creduto e credo che scriveranno storie che ci ispireranno con l’esempio…

… come credo che nei raggi della luce sono nascoste le aspirazioni piu’ alte di molti bambini Smrikva, e di noi stessi… molti potrebbero mai raggiungerle, pero tutti possiamo guardare in alto, credere in nostri sogni… e tentare di seguirli… gustandoci il viaggio… e non dimenticandoci che per i nostri cari siamo noi questa luce…

… un’altro sogno per i bimbi Smrikva da portare nel cuore, come ci insegno’ un signore che questo mese lascio’ la vita terrena: “Sport has the power to change the world, the power to inspire and the power to unite people in a way little else can – it is an instrument of peace.”

I was pleased to recognize a lot of Smrikva Bowl players names on Eddie Herr International, NIKE Junior MASTER, “Little Mo” International, Prince Cup, and I am also pleased to recognize Smrikva Bowl players names on this year 52nd Junior Orange Bowl 2013 – International Tennis Championship.

The Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship has a rich history of bringing some of the world’s most promising young tennis players to South Florida, including Juan Martin Del Potro, Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, Justine Henin, Kim Clijsters, Monica Seles, Chris Evert, Jim Courier, Mary Jo Fernandez…

...and I am pleased to recall that three years ago George Morgan, 8th Smrikva Bowl 2003 runner up, won the under 18 age group, two years ago Dominic Thiem, 8th Smrikva Bowl 2003 winner, won the under 18 age group… and last year Ana Konjuh, 12th Smrikva Bowl 2007 runner up, and Laslo Djere, 10th Smrikva Bowl 2005 runner up, won the under 18 age group…

This week the 52nd edition of the Junior ORANGE BOWL 2013 is played in under 12 and under 14 age groups and several top Smrikva Bowl players are in the Draws…

Belinda Benicic, 11th Smrikva Bowl 2006 player, and winner of this year Junior Roland Garros and Wimbledon single titles was named 2013 ITF World Champions

Belinda BENCIC is only the third Swiss player, after Roger Federer and Martina Hingis, to be named ITF World Champion in any category after securing the year-end No. 1 girls ranking.

The 16-year-old was unbeaten until late July, winning 39 straight matches and two Grand Slam titles, at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. She was also a quarterfinalist at the US Open and ended the year with six titles and an overall 42-2 singles win loss record.

I am pleased to recall other 3 Smrikva Bowl junior players who made extraordinary results during this year in the junior tennis and were probably the candidates for the election: Ana KONJUH (winner of the junior titles at AUSTRALIAN OPEN and US OPEN), Gianluigi QUINZI (winner of junior Wimbledon) and Borna CORIC (winner of junior US OPEN).

There is a long term friendship relationship between Smrikva Bowl and “Little Mo”...

In 2002, the Smrikve Tennis Club joined forces with the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation and created the first-ever international competition between the United States and Europe for boys and girls under 10 and named it the “Little Mo”/ Smrikva Bowl.

This event was a unique and traditional meeting of the youngest and most talented players in the World.

This prestigous Junior International tournament was founded in 1987 by Eddie’s grandson (Glenn Feldman) to honor his grandfather for his life’s passion and success of bringing the world’s best junior tennis players together to compete. Eddie Herr was the founder of the Orange Bowl…

Over the past 20 years the Eddie Herr International Junior Tournament attracted players from over 136 nations and has served as a springboard to the professionals such as Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick, David Nalbandian, Anna Kournikova, Mardy Fish, Xavier Malisse, Marcelo Rios, Jelena Jankovic, and Ana Ivanovic – to name just a few.

Few years ago two Smrikva Bowl winners won also Eddie Herr International… Katarina Jokic, 13th Smrikva Bowl 2008 winner, won the under 12 age group, while Dominic Thiem, 8th Smrikva Bowl 2003 winner, won the under 18 age group… and Ana Konjuh, 12th Smrikva Bowl 2007 runner up, won the under 18 age group last year…

This year Miomir KECMANOVIC and Adam NEFF won respective under 14 and under 12 age groups.

Last week end the 15th International Tennis Symposium was held at Centro Pavesi in Milan (Italy) promoted by UISP and GPTCA

I spent this week end at Centro Pavesi in Milan participating the 15th International Tennis Symposium... as per tradition the Symposium gathered many interesting speakers and it was again an opportunity to learn something new…

The event was this year mainly promoted and supported by UISP (Unione Italiana Sport per tutti) and GPTCA (Global Professional Tennis Coach Association)...

GPTCA is a quite a new fast growing tennis association of Profesional Coaches – certified by ATP – and chaired by Alberto CASTELLANI... Alberto CASTELLANI and Claudio PISTOLESI were the main facilitator of this year event because this year Symposium was combined with GPTCA Certification Course…

After the welcome year of the Symposium president Mr. Massimo Rossi over the week end many former top players, today coaches, World level tennis personalities shared their experience with the group: Alberto CASTELLANI, Claudio PISTOLESI, Antonio Quirino CIPOLLA, Claudio MEZZADRI, Sandra CECCHINI, Barbara ROSSI, Federico RICCI, Claudio GRASSI, Patricio REMODEGUI, Adriana SERRAZANETTI, Erasmo PALMA, Dragos Madalin LUSCAN, Laura GOLARSA, Gianni CLERICI, Toni NADAL, Jonas SVENSSON...

The first topic presented was named “The transition from Junior to professional player”... and was presented by Claudio PISTOLESI and Antonio Quirino CIPOLLA... Antonio Quirino, a part of helping his son to reach high levels at ATP list was also the coach of Claudio PISTOLESI when he was a kid… it was a very interesting experince sharing…

Claudio GRASSI also participated in this part… and shared his personal Futures experiences…

The following topic was presented by Claudio MEZZADRI and facilitated by Claudio PISTOLESI... and the experience was mainly related to Roger FEDERER growing experience at some critical moments…

The title of the topic was “Professional Coaching: the first Federer in Davis Cup and plazing a final against the strongest Team of all times”.

Claudio MEZZADRI was the Swiss Davis Cup Team Leader at the time Federer was 17 years old… it was a very interesting story presentation he shared with the group… of some little details that ex-post can help you get some personality details of the Champion people learn to know more about later on…

A big surpise was meeting Mr. Gianni CLERICI... maybe to the people who joined tennis recenlty this name may not mean a lot… but for those who had a pleasure to read his articles or books felt reference while he joined the event…

Mr. CLERICI wrote the most read tennis book in the World… it is one of the very few journalist members of the International Tennis Hall of Fame…

... and just recently I read his last book 60 years of Wimbledon which is another of his artworks… with many details and hints that help you understand better how this game eveloved and the key actores of the game over time…

After interviews Patricio REMODEGUI and Adriana SERRAZANETTI made some court exercises with the group of students… and for me, a part of enjoying the presentation, it was a real pleasure to watch at work the coach who helped Robin KERN in his tennis growth… and Robin played Smrikva Bowl in 2002 and today is around 350 ATP ranking… Giulia LAMBIASE is another of his students and Giulia also played Smrikva…

The title of the topic presented by Adriana and Patricio was: “Professional Coaching: creativity as basis of different exercises for high level players”...

At the end of the day… Erasmo PALMA shared part of his last book “Art, education and performance”...

Professional Coaches are always on the edge… and the importance of preserving the body at high levels is a concern of many professionals in our sport… and it was a plesure to listen to a young professional invited by Alberto CASTELLANI who basically presented the mobile gym… you can take everywhere with you and that can help you to use your body to prepare and can help you in your streching too…

Dragos Madalin LUSCAN presented the “TRX Suspension Training”... 1 chilo you can take in your beg and avoid so many problems to your body simply using your body… the mobile gym Alberto called it… to prevent and avoid injuries…

Laura GOLARSA hold another lesson… and shared the method she prefer to use in her tennis Academy… and she focussed on her experience with the high level women tennis…

... the performance she shared with the group was titled: “Professional Coaching: exercises to improve the basic strokes with high level women players”

...another, not announced thus not expected, surprise was meeting Jonas SVENSSON... Jonas is today a Professional Coach dedicating his time to the young tennis players and he was part of the tennis World when players from Sweeden dominated the World tennis…

... and after hearing the story of Federer when he was young… the UNCLE TONY shared the story of RAFAEL NADAL... although my friend Luca APPINO shared many moments on Rafa with me I was so pleased to learn things I did not know on Rafa…

He made two lessons: “My Coaching with Rafa” and “The exercises of Rafael Nadal, 8 time winner of Roland Garros and #1 in the world”...

Uncle Tony NADAL... if you ask me to look for just a few words to describe him… I would use words humble and simple... probably the same words one would use to describe the greatness of Rafa…

TONY made a great lesson… not only a tennis lesson but also a life lesson… and as always he tried to make it simple… very simple… real and normal…

... experts gatherings and allowing them to share their knowledge with the others is always a special pleasure to assist at…

Alberto CASTELLANI, a part of being a coach, is a great fun of culture, art and history thus his presentation are usually coloured with deep notes related with culture that I always enjoy…

Alberto, as I wrote at the beginning, is among other, also the President of the ATP Global Professional Tennis Coach Association… he coached several top ATP players but is also the founder of Tennis Academy called “Il Perugino: the Art of Tennis” which name at least in part reflect his personality…

I can only say that it was another “good year” for the Symposium… :)
