Alen Rogic - Hadzalic, Alexei and Anthony Popyrin with Croatian tennis stars Ivo Karlovic and Ivan Ljubicic
Alen Rogic Hadzalic played 12th Smrikva Bowl in year 2007 while the brothers Alexei and Anthony Popyrin played last year Smrikva Bowl.
I received their pohotos in the last few days after presenting to them the book Istria from Smrikve.
Alen Rogic Hadzalic lives in Zagreb and he had the opportunity to make the picture with top Croatian players: Ivan Ljubicic and Ivo Karlovic.
On the first photo you can see Alen with Ivan Ljubicic, followed by the photo with Ivo Karlovic and Ivan Ljubicic.

Anthony and Alexei Popyrin are Australian and Anthony was born in 2000 and Alexei in 1999 so they both are preparing to play this year Smrikva Bowl.
This winter they spent in Florida preparing for the coming season and Anthony’s best result were: UAE Nike Junior Tour B12U quarterfinalist, quarter and 1 semi in 4 10U local events played, while Alexei performed as follows: winner of 5 10U tournaments, runner up in two 12U, finalist of Nike Junior Tour B12U.
The player on the picture with red t-shirt is Alexei and the other one is Anthony.

I also received the updates from Eleanor Dean’s father Alan. Eleanor is from UK and she won the 11th Smrikva Bowl in 2006. This winter she reached the semi final of the Orange Bowl championships in Florida, and was awarded third place in the play off.
Eleanor will return to Croatia this April with the British team to play a tournament over Easter.
Dr. Khaled Farouk also informed me that after Smrikva Bowl experience he will bring again the Egyptian team to Croatia to Cakovec this April to play Croatia Cup U12.
Dr. Khaled Farouk was the coach of the Egyptian Fed Cup team.

ISTRIA FROM SMRIKVE - a virtual book about Istria and its culture is on line
Smrikve (Pula), 26th March 2009
Dear Smrikve and Smrikva Bowl Friends,
I completed recently a virtual book about Istria and its culture that aims to promote future ATRIVM SMRIKVE HOTEL (SMRIKVE LOUNGE), to further promote Smrikva Bowl (considered one of the most important under 10 tennis tournaments in the World) and present Istria as cultural tourism destination.
www.smrikve.com/istria/ is the link that I am pleased to invite you to visit.
If you like Istria from Smrikve I would be also pleased if you forward this link to your friends that may be interested to visit Istria and thus help to spread the word about Istria as cultural destination.
The book aims to provide the reader with useful information about the places that should be visited. You will find information about: Istrian architecture, history, music, cuisine, olive oil and wine. Over 90 places are described in it and almost 1800 pictures were made. The best traditional restaurants, olive oil and wine producers were gathered in a database that you can easily find in the book or using the toolbar, or the section of Istrian Cuisine.
If you decide to include Istria in your travel itinerary, I would be pleased to let you know that you can consider to be our guest in Smrikve. Smrikve is a privately owned estate and a tennis club (home to Smrikva Bowl), situated on the outskirts of the city of Pula, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Smrikve is located mere 5 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from Pula’s Roman Arena, about 15 minutes from Pula’s International Airport and only few kilometres from the famous Brioni islands.
I dream to see one day many former Smrikva Bowl players preparing for important tournaments in ATRIVM SMRIKVE HOTEL (SMRIKVE LOUNGE), using Smrikve tennis courts.
At Smrikve you can play tennis, taste our own made olive oil and wine, enjoy the farm animals, take pleasure in the surrounding nature and the nearby sea or have lovely discussions by the fireplace. Villa Smrikve can currently accommodate few families. However, upcoming ATRIVM SMRIKVE HOTEL (SMRIKVE LOUNGE) will provide more accommodation.
Events and people that shaped European history have had much influence in Istria as well. Istria’s size could be compared to Rome, London and Paris. However, instead of driving through the crowded streets of Rome, Paris or London you will be driving through the beautiful Istrian nature while enjoying the same European cultural heritage.
About 200,000 inhabitants, beautiful Mediterranean nature, lovely hilltops covered with woods, crystal blue sea, excellent food, olive oil that is considered among the best in the World, outstanding wine, many nice towns and villages that are well worth a visit – most of which are inhabited for over 3000 years. This is in very few words ISTRIA.
Istrian region was the most prominent during the Roman Empire period, the Early Byzantine Empire, the Venice Republic, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and during Yugoslavia, when the Brioni islands were the stage of Tito’s Non Aligned policy during the Cold War.
Today, Istria is often compared to Tuscany for its beauty, culture and the tradition of producing olive oil and wine. If you visit Istria you will realise that Istria is simply Istria. Throughout the year, and especially in the summer, there are various cultural events held every day in almost every Istrian town. Every day you can find something that could be of interest to you and in just few hours you can be on St. Mark’s square in Venice.
Olive oil and wine are part of the culture of a particular region. During the Roman Empire, both Istrian olive oil and wine were among the best in the whole Empire and today they are part of the Istrian heritage.
I hope you will enjoy Istria From Smrikve and forward the link of the book to your friends thus help Istria to become one day a recognized cultural destination. Thanks in advance for each e-mail :).

Miodrag Bozovic
Smrikve (Pula), 26. ožujak 2009
Dragi prijatelji Smrikvi i prijatelji Smrikva Bowl-a,
Knjiga sadrži informacije o raznim mjestima, o arhitekturi, povijesti, muzici, kuhinji, vinu i ulju…
Tijekom cijele godine a posebno tijekom ljeta održavaju se brojni kulturni događaji u skoro svakom gradu a i manjem mjestu Istre.
Vino i ulje su dio kulture jednoga kraja. Tijekom Rimskog Carstva i ulje i vino su bilo među nejboljima u carstvu a i današnji Istarski vinari i uljari njeguju to nasljeđe.
Miodrag Bozovic

Durante l’anno e specialmente durante l’estate vengono proposti tantissimi eventi culturali.
Cordiali saluti,
Miodrag Bozovic

Luka Panic - 13th Smrikva Bowl 2008 winner - continue to progress in his game
Last night I received from Switzerland few updates on Luka Panic’s results and his programme for the following months.
Luka was the winner of the 13th Smrikva Bowl 2008 and with this victory was awarded with the opportunity to train for a week at prestigous Mouratoglou Tennis Academy near Paris. Luka spent a week with his trainer Boris Grbic in Paris and the results obtained after Smrikva Bowl victory continue to prove Luka’s work.

Luka is also lucky to train at outstanding facilities in Switzerland. He lives only ten kilometres far away from the world famous tennis star Roger Federer. It happened that Roger Federer trained on the nearby court where Luka was traininig this winter. On the pictrue below you will see Luka with Roger Federer who also watched a little how Luka was playing.

Luka continues to train and work seriously on his game. Over a year has passed since he was selected as a talented player by the Swiss Tennis Federation and his progress is supervised by them.
Luka has Croatian and Swiss Nationality thus was invited to play the Croatian National Championship in the under 12 age group. With two year older players was not an easy task to progress in the draw.
After the first round victory over Roko Glasnovic with the result of 6:3, 6:1 he lost in the second round against second seeded player Tomislav Podvinski with the result 6:1, 6:3.
Few weeks ago he played another tournament in Croatia in the under 12 age group where most of the players were the players Luka had the opportunity to meet on this year Smrikva Bowl and this time Luka was the winner of the tournament.
Luka’s road towards the victory of Oroslavje was the following:
1st round: Bye
2nd round: Luka Panic – Jurica Petric Posavec 6:0, 6:0
Quarterfinals: Luka Panic – David Samardzija 6:4, 6:2
Semifinals: Luka Panic – Karlo Suevich 6:2, 6:1
Finals: Luka Panic – Jakov Martinis 6:2, 6:1

Jakov Martinis and two years younger Karlo Suevich both played last year Smrikva Bowl.
Currently Luka is at home in Switzerland and last weekend he played a team tournament where four top teams of Switzerland played a Championship. Luka was the Captain of his team contributed to the victory they obtained.
There are several tournaments that are on his schedule for the following part of the season and the most important will be the Swiss and Croatian National Championship where Luka would like to participate and do his best.
Good work Luka!

Ajla Tomljanovic obtained the Wild Card for the Main Draw of USD 4.500.000 worth Indian Wells tournament while Petra Martic qualified for the Main Draw
Indian Wells will be the first important professional experience for the 15 years old Croatian rising tennis star – AJLA TOMLJANOVIC. Ajla trains at Chris Evert Academy in Florida and is currently ranked #822 on WTA list and #5 on ITF ranking list.
Only a month ago Ajla Tomljanovic and Christina Mc Hale (USA) won the double finals of the Junior Australian Open 2009.
In December Ajla defeated in the finals of the XXXI Casablanca Junior Cup 2009 the fifth junior in the World, Ana Bogdan from Romania.
Below you can enjoy a short video registered in Mexico during XXXI Casablanca Junior Cup 2009.
Ajla Tomljanovic played Smrikva Bowl twice: in 2002 and in 2003. The first time she was runner up and second time ranked third.
In 2002 she was part of the team that established the “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl tournament. This is a very nice story that I repeated several times and you can read it in the “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl story.

Here below you can see Ajla holding the Croatian flag in Austin Texas at the 1st “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl. At the time Ajla was 9 years old. It was October 2002.

Last night I received an e-mail from Marija Zivlak. Marija is the editor of Women Tennis Blog and she told me that Ajla got the wild card for the Main Draw and she recalled an article she published in November 2007 when she heard for the first time Ajla’s name.
I went to see the draw today and I saw that also Petra Martic is playing the qualifications so the article she wrote mention both Petra and Ajla and I post it again for those who did not read it at the time.
Both Petra Martic and Ajla Tomljanovic are today on Indian Wells.
PETRA MARTIC is 17 years old Croatian tennis player currently ranked #201 on WTA list. She was the winner of the 6th Smrikva Bowl 2001.
In the first round of the Indian Wells qualifications Petra Martic defeated Rossana de los Rios, a Paraguayan tennis player ranked #91 on WTA ranking list, with the result 7:5, 6:0.
In the second round of the qualifications Petra Martic defeated Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan, ranked #94 on WTA list, with result 6:3, 6:4.
Please enjoy the article dated 3rd November 2007 and published on Women Tennis Blog.
Smrikva Bowl founder on tennis star of the future
by Marija Zivlak
I have been in contact with Miodrag Bozovic, a very committed founder and organizer of a tennis tournament for kids called Smrikva Bowl, so I decided to spread the word about this tournament and also present some possible tennis stars of the future.
Smrikva Bowl is a tournament for kids under 10 years old, located near the city of Pula, in Croatia. It was founded in 1996 and over time, it has become one of the most important tournaments of the kind.
What impressed me the most about this tournament was that it survives on a limitless enthusiasm of its founder as well as on a large number of volunteers and friends who have recognized the beauty of the tournament. In 2007 kids from as much as four continents came to Croatia to take part in the event.
I thought that my readers would be interested in which youngsters have a potential to make it big when they grow up, but Miodrag Bozovic was reluctant to answer my question, with a solid reason: according to the statistics of his friend Luca Appino, a former marketing director of high-end tennis racquet manufacturer Babolat, only six per cent of the best juniors (from 16-year-olds onwards) reach the Top 100 when they become professional players. This means that chances of a promising 10-year-old of making it to the top are slim to none.
However, Miodrag hasn’t lost hope and there are many young players that he strongly believes in. For me, he singled out four promising girls.
Saska Gavrilovska from Serbia, born in 1995, won the Smrikva Bowl in 2004 and 2005. After winning the Smrikva Bowl, she found a sponsor from New York who helped her to start training in Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Gavrilovska now predominantly plays tournaments in the USA, and when she was only 11 years old she reached the quarterfinals of the 2006 Orange Bowl.
Virginia Pena is another talented child. And what is more, she comes from Mallorca, a homeplace of both former world No.1 Carlos Moya and current world No.2 Rafael Nadal. Pena was born in 1997 and she was the Smrikva Bowl champion in 2007, while in 2006 she took the third place. This makes Virginia Pena the second best player at the Smrikva Bowl after Serbia’s Saska Gavrilovska.
The 16-year-old Petra Martic from Croatia is another female player the organizer of the Smrikva Bowl highly believes in. She won the event in 2001, and today, she is ranked 340th in the world after having competed in eight tournaments. Miodrag Bozovic believes that she has enough talent to crack the Top 100 in the near future. In the photo you can see Petra with the first prize – a bicycle.
And last but not least is the 2002 Smrikva Bowl finalist Ajla Tomljanovic born in 1993 in Croatia. Former world No.16 Goran Prpic said that he expects her to play at Roland Garros in two years time. The girl is from a celebrated sporting family, her father Ratko Tomljanovic was the captain of the Croatian national handball team when they won the Olympic gold in Atlanta. In the summer of 2007, Ajla moved to the States where she’s working on her tennis career.
I hope that some of these four girls will make it big, and that I will be able to say: “Oh, I was among the first ones to write about them, I heard of them when they were still kids”.
Congratulation and good luck Ajla and Petra!

HOW WAS BORN THE IDEA TO CREATE SUCH A UNIQUE INTERNATIONAL TEAMS TENNIS COMPETITION FOR PLAYERS UNDER 10?...
In 2001, 6th Smrikva Bowl was played and at the time Smrikva Bowl was becoming a European tournament. Marcia Frost, at the time the editor of College and Junior Tennis, was traditionally reporting on her website the Smrikva Bowl results.
I was trying to gather also players from the USA to the Smrikva Bowl and asked Marcia Frost if she could help me to find top US players that would like to participate the Smrikva Bowl. She told me that the right person to contact would be Carol Weyman.
Carol Weyman is the executive director of MCB Tennis Foundation. Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation is the most dedicated tennis foundation for the youngest tennis players in the USA and at the time, among other events, was also organizing the “Little Mo” Nationals.
Me and Carol exchanged ideas and very soon the idea of gathering top “Little Mo” players with top Smrikva Bowl players emerged.
Thus, in 2002, the Smrikve Tennis Club joined forces with the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation and created the first-ever international competition between the United States and Europe for boys and girls under 10 and named it the “Little Mo”/ Smrikva Bowl.

The “Little Mo”/ Smrikva Bowl has become a unique and already traditional meeting of the youngest and most talented players in the World.
At the time when “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl was created the Smrikva Bowl was a European tournament. The original idea was the meeting of the US and European players. Since than Smrikva Bowl has grown in a global under 10 tennis competition gathering top players from almost all World continents. On the following picture are represented the countries of origin of the players that competed on the Smrikva Bowl with inclusion of this year candidates:

This year edition “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl will be played the day after the finals of the 14th Smrikva Bowl 2008, on June 28th, 2008 at the Smrikve Tennis Club in Pula, Croatia.
THE FIRST TWO EDITIONS WERE PLAYED IN THE USA, IN AUSTIN – TEXAS…
I am very pleased to recall the 1st “Little Mo”/ Smrikva Bowl that was played at the Courtyard Tennis Club in Austin (Texas) on Friday, October 25th 2002.
The players representing the United States were: Jordaan Sanford (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) and Morgan Basil (St. Petersburg, FL). They were selected from the “Little Mo” National Championships. On the other side the players representing Europe were: Ajla Tomljanovic (Cro) and Ema Burgic (BiH), the second and third ranked player on the 7th Smrikva Bowl.

Ajla and Ema were second and third ranked players and the original agreed format should have been to have two top boys and two top girls that is the format that we kept till today but among: Javier Marti, Giacomo Miccini, Martina Caregaro and Ajla Tomljanovic that were eligible to represent Smrikva Bowl on the 1st”Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl only Ajla and her father Ratko
Tomljanovic accepted the challenge.
Ajla’s father was the Captian of Croatian Handball team that won the golden medal at the Olimpic games in Atlanta. When I got the answer from Javier, Giacomo and Martina that were for most various reason not in a position to do the trip Ema’s father also accepted the challenge. Ajla is from Zagreb (Croatia) and Ema from Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina). I was very pleased when Ema’s father told me that also the Major of Tuzla was there when they started their trip to the USA.
Ajla and Ema have taken the challenge to fly over the Ocean and to found the “Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl. They were under 10 girls that allowed this little dream to become true thanks to their courage. Year after year the event became traditional but that first step was important.

Let me give you some insights about my memories on Bogdan Borza during his Smrikva Bowl of two years ago…
Bogdan Alexandru Borza is currently 12 years old player and for sure is among the most talented rising Romanian junior tennis players.
In 2007 the Smrika Bowl final was played between Bogdan Borza and Sacha Merzetti. That final was among the most beautiful finals in the Smrikva Bowl history. It was like the final between Nadal and Nadal :). They both have as example the tennis star Rafael Nadal and they both behaved before the match in a very similar manner Rafael Nadal does.
Bogdan Borza and Sacha Merzetti both at the time had an increadible energy, determination and good technique. It was very funny when one mum wanted to compliment with Bogdan and she said to him that he looks like Roger Federer and she said that because really Bogdan had a similar dress, body and also the game style was similar to Federer’s one, but Bogdan answered to that compliment:”No, I am like Nadal”.
This was very funny to me :). On the other side, the other finalist, Sacha Merzetti, had the dress similar to Nadal’s one. In end they both wanted to be like Nadal :). It is interesting that this was the second time that this two players played in the finals against each other and the first time in Rome on the Lemon Bowl the winner was Bogdan Borza and later on, on the Smrikva Bowl the winner was Sacha Merzetti but the level of the game was similar.
Bogdan’s father speaks very well Italian so we had the opportunity to speak several times and I was really surprised when he told me that Bogdan train by his own playing with older players in his town.
This was increadible for me for the clean tecnique and such a good game that Bogdan has reached in this age group. I hope Bogdan will find a good trainer in the future who will follow him and allow him to further develop his game.
Congratulations Bogdan Borza!

Gonzalo Morell is the under 12 Australian Champion
Gonzalo Morell is another top Smrikva Bowl player. He played 12th Smrikva Bowl in 2007 and ranked 3rd that year.
I learned today that Gonzalo Morell has double citizenship: he is Spanish and Australian citizen. His father called me today to introduce to me another top Spanish junior that is willing to represent Spain this year at Smrikva Bowl
I also learned that Gonzalo Morell become the under 12 Champion of Australia on 21st of December 2008.

Please find bellow Gonzalo Morell’s road towards the victory of the Australian under 12 Championship:
1st round: Gonzalo Morrell – Aston Clark 6:0, 6:0
2nd round: Gonzalo Morrell – Ethan Gill 6:0, 6:0
3rd round: Gonzalo Morrell – J. Faundez 6:2, 6:2
Quarterfinals: Gonzalo Morrell – J.Holland 6:0, 6:0
Semifinals: Gonzalo Morrell – Luke Keddie 6:0, 6:1
Finals: Gonzalo Morrell – Scott Jones 6:0, 6:1
It is amazing if you look at the results but in the whole Championship Gonzalo Morell lost only six games!
Gonzalo Morell is a family friend to several Spanish tennis stars. This for sure helps if you grow surrounded by tennis. I enjoyed very much that year listening the stories about the way they and in particular Rafael Nadal train.
Gonzalo’s coach is also the coach of Carlos Boluda that is another Spanish rising star.
I remember that Gonzalo was a very tall boy already at the Smrikva Bowl and remined me Ciprian Porumb junior from Romania, the son of the former Davis Cup player Ciprian Porumb senior, that ranked 3rd on the 9th Smrikva Bowl in 2003 and now is an outstanding junior.
Hopefully Gonzalo will keep working hard as he did in the past and we will hear much more about him in the future.
Gonzalo’s father also remined me that in the main draw of the OPEN SUPER 12 AURAY, that will be play in the following weeks in France, there are all 12th Smrikva Bowl 2007 semifinalists: Sacha Merzetti from Italy, Bogdan Borza from Romenia, Gonzalo Morell from Spain and Sergiu Bucur from Romenia.
It will be interesting to follow them on this important under 12 world meeting that last year was won by Gianluigi Quinzi from Italy another Smrikva Bowl winner.
Congratulations Gonzalo and lets cross the finghers for all you Smrikva boys for the following weeks in Auray in France!

Nikola Milojevic won the finals of the 27th annual Les Petit As - unofficial under 14 World Championship - played in Tarbes, France
Nikola Milojevic and Borna Coric played the finals of 27th annual of Les Petit As – unofficial under 14 World Championship – that is traditionally played in Tarbes in France.
Nikola Milojevic and Borna Coric both played 10th Smrikva Bowl in 2005. Nikola Milojevic won the Smrikva Bowl Consolation tournament while Borna Coric was only 9 years old at the time.
I did not know till recently that actually Nikola had a problem with strings in the first round of the Smrikva Bowl and due to that situation he lost in the main tournament and played in the Consolation tournament. Over the years his game has strongly developed but it is an indication that each Smrikva Bowl player has a growth potential.
Almost four years after their Smrikva Bowl they played the finals of the unofficial World Championship Les Petit As. Borna Coric is a year younger than Nikola Milojevic but their tennis quality in their age group is shown by their roads towards the finals.
Nikola Milojevic born in 1995 in Serbia is currently ranked #1 in Europe in under 14 age group. Borna Coric born in 1996 in Croatia is currently ranked #4 in Europe in under 14 age group.
Nikola was in Smrikve this summer and his tennis countinue to improve year after year. He continues to grow and I like his game and his personality a lot. I also had the opportunity to see Borna in Umag last summer. Borna is a hard worker since a very young age and hopefully we will hear more about those two outstanding players in the following future.
Nikola Milojevic road towards the victory of the 27th Les Petit As World Championship Tarbes – France was the following:
1st round: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Paul CATIAU 6:4, 6:1
2nd round: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Dominic WEIDINGER 6:1, 6:0
3rd round: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Alexandre FAVROT 6:4, 6:3
Quarterfinals: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Joseph DI GIULIO 6:7, 6:1, 6:2
Semifinals: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Luke BAMBRIDGE 6:1, 4:6, 6:2
Finals: Nikola MILOJEVIC – Borna CORIC 6:2, 6:3
Borna Coric road to the finals at 27th Les Petit As World Championship Tarbes – France was the following:
1st round: Borna CORIC – Roy LEDERMAN 2:6, 6:3, 6:2
2nd round: Borna CORIC – Andras SZEKELY 6:0, 6:1
3rd round: Borna CORIC – Anton PAVLOV 6:2, 6:1
Quarterfinals: Borna CORIC – Albert ALCARAZ 6:0, 6:2
Semifinals: Borna CORIC – Enzo COUACAUD 6:0, 6:4
Finals: Borna CORIC – Nikola MILOJEVIC 2:6, 3:6
There were several other top Smrikva Bowl players in the main draw at 27th Les Petit As and I will recall only few of them: Saska Gavrilovska, Donna Vekic, Jasmina Stor, Belinda Bencic, Gianluigi Quinzi, Franko Miocic, Karlo Skvorc, Ivan Divkovic, Andras Szekely, Matteo Donati, etc.
In the boys double finals Matteo Donati (10th Smrikva Bowl 2005 winner) and Stefano Naplitano from Italy defeated Borna Coric and Karlo Skvorc from Croatia 4:6, 6:4, 11:9.
A special congratulations to Nikola, Borna, Matteo and Karlo!

Ajla Tomljanovic and Christina Mc Hale (USA) won the double finals of the Junior Australian Open 2009 against Alexandra Krunic from Serbia and Sandra Zaniewska from Poland with result 6:1, 2:6, (10:4).
Ajla Tomljanovic played Smrikva Bowl twice: in 2002 and in 2003. The first time she was runner up and second time ranked third. Javier Marti, 7th Smrikva Bowl 2002 winner, is ranked #848 on ATP ranking list
Javier Marti was the first spanish player to play Smrikva Bowl. For long period he was ranked #2 in Europe in under 16 age group cathegory and recently he started to play professional tournaments. His current ranking on ATP list is #848.
Javier won the Smrikva Bowl finals against Giacomo Miccini from Italy. Giacomo is another talented tennis player that faced a surgery a month ago and hopefully will return soon to the tennis courts. It was a wounderfull final that I recall. Giacomo who was playing like Goran Ivanisevic and Javier more close to Sampras :).
I found this recent Javier’s video so the people that saw him in Pula in 2002 can enjoy his current development and below can read a short story how I recall his Smrikva Bowl experience…
Javier Marti and his yellow bike after the 7th Smrikva Bowl 2002…
I remember Javier Marti and Ana Alfayate were the first player I had from Spain. A friend of mine promissed me that he will bring me that year the top player from Spain and this actually happened.
Javier was increadibly good player. He was very small at the time but with perfect technique and no errors in the game. Similar to Eduardo Nava’s game that played 6th”Little Mo”/Smrikva Bowl in 2007. Eduardo Nava is from the United States.
I remember that Javier won that year the bike but he arrived with a plane to Venice and rent a car to come to Pula so his father had a problem how to take the bike home :)...
In that moment Javier’s father that is also named Javier told him if he want to leave or give the bike to someone here in Pula because the shifting of the bike to Madrid will cost more than the value of the bike. The father promissed to Javier that he would have bought another bike for him in Madrid :)... it was a yellow mountain bike…
I remeber the face of Javier he was looking at the bike and he said… but father I won this bike I wont to take it home. So in end we put it on the plane and sent it to Madrid. Since that year Javier continued to help us in bringing top players from Spain to Smrikva Bowl and we had some very talented players in the last years.

Mattia Bedolo reached the semifinals at TTK Rome Warriors Championships under 10 age group
Two weaks ago Mattia Bedolo played the semifinals of TTK Rome Warriors Championships against Harry Simpson from UK.
Mattia is a talented Italian player from Padua that played several times Smrikva Bowl and last year it was his last time on the Smrikva Bowl. He lost in the third round against first seed player from Croatia Karlo Boljat.
I received today from Matteo’s father, and also coach – Umberto, a notice of the aritcle that was published on Ubaldo Scanagatta Blog written by Roberto Commentucci on Jannuary 8th, 2009. Il difficile mestiere del talent scout. Alla scoperta dei talenti del TTK Warriors
On the picture bellow are Matteo Bedolo and his father Umberto during the 13th Smrikva Bowl 2008.
For those who understand Italian I decided to publish a part related to Mattia.
It is interesting that in quarterfinals Mattia played against Mihnea Turcu from Romania that was the runner up of 13th Smrikva Bowl 2008. The victory in the match with Turcu confirms that Mattia continues to further develop.
For those that understand Italian here is the part of the article related to Mattia:
