Istrian Tranditional Dances: “Balun”

There are several traditional Istrian dances but the most characteristic one is called balun. Balun is spread in almost every part of Istria excluding the Slovenian part.

  • BALUN: spread all over Istria and is considered “the traditional dance in Istria”
  • POLKA: spread all over Istria,
  • MAZURKA: spread all over Istria but mostly in the northern and north western part of Istria including Slovenian Istria,
  • VALZER: spread all over Istria but mostly in the northern part,
  • SETEPASSI: spread all over Istria except in the southern part of Istria,
  • SOTIS: spread mostly in the north western part of Istria),
  • MANFRINA: spread mostly in the north western part of Istria,
  • GAMBIADONE: spread mostly in the northern part of Istria,
  • FURLANA: present only in few villages in the south western part of Istria,
  • SALTIN: spread in the north western part of Istria,
  • STAIRA: spread in the north western part of Istria,
  • VILOTA: present only in few villages in the south western part of Istria,
  • SBOLSARA: spread only in few villages in the north western part of Istria,
  • VALZERVIEN: spread only in few villages in the north western part of Istria.
