Istrian Tranditional Dances: “Balun”
There are several traditional Istrian dances but the most characteristic one is called balun. Balun is spread in almost every part of Istria excluding the Slovenian part.
The complete list of the dances gathered and analyzed by Dario Marusic include the following dances:
- BALUN: spread all over Istria and is considered “the traditional dance in Istria”
- POLKA: spread all over Istria,
- MAZURKA: spread all over Istria but mostly in the northern and north western part of Istria including Slovenian Istria,
- VALZER: spread all over Istria but mostly in the northern part,
- SETEPASSI: spread all over Istria except in the southern part of Istria,
- SOTIS: spread mostly in the north western part of Istria),
- MANFRINA: spread mostly in the north western part of Istria,
- GAMBIADONE: spread mostly in the northern part of Istria,
- FURLANA: present only in few villages in the south western part of Istria,
- SALTIN: spread in the north western part of Istria,
- STAIRA: spread in the north western part of Istria,
- VILOTA: present only in few villages in the south western part of Istria,
- SBOLSARA: spread only in few villages in the north western part of Istria,
- VALZERVIEN: spread only in few villages in the north western part of Istria.
