Sv.Lovrec Pazenaticki – S.Lorenzo del Pasenatico: “Do dio mi piu'”

You will pass again nearby the Municipal loggia that was built on the southern wall of the Parish Church and if you stay in front of the Parish Church, on your right side, the building that you see was the prison.

I would like to remind you that once the entrance of the Church was located in the place where the Municipal loggia is today. In front of the current façade there was the Podesta’ palace built in the 13th century and demolished in 1838.

In fact, the main façade of the Parish Church, as wrote before, dates back into 1838. The coat of arms that can be seen on the main façade, above the current main door of the church, is the coat of arms of the family Priuli, an important family from Venice.

The Parish Church of St. Martin is a simply conceived Romanesque three-naved building from the 11th century. Its interior is divided by arcading supported by columns.

Two layers of frescos have been found in the northern and southern apses. The earlier one dates back into the 11th century and was made with Byzantium influence. The later frescos are from the 16th century made with clear Italian influence.

There are several other interesting buildings in Sv. Lovrec. Your visit should continue by taking the road that goes nearby the prison building. This street will allow you to visit the main concentric street.

The first main building is located between the “ex-tower” gate and the prison. It is a house from the 13th – 14th century that you should see.

It is not very simple to find it because is hidden in a court yard. You can not see the main façade but only the back of this house. The second floor of the main façade can be seen from the outside of the town walls. If you find it you will recognize it for many various windows of which several have the vault form.

Once you pass near the “ex-tower” gate you will pass near the another gate named small gate. There are another small gate about hundred meters from there.

If you continue to walk on this main concentric street you will note on your left side an old house from the 14th century with a vault on the entrance and this was the ex-Hospital of the town.

The next interesting building, on the same side of the street, is the house named “Do dio mi piu’”. The house has this name for the stone inscription on the façade although the coat of arms on the inscription belonged to the Venetian family Venier.

This house is from the 14th century and is located nearby the ruins of the big former Frigerio family house.

Today is even hard to imagine the beauty of this old house because only a part of the main façade with its balcony have been preserved. The ruins are located near the place where once upon a time was located the second small town gate.

There are few other interesting buildings to see if you continue to follow the concentric street. Walking nearby the town walls you will note 17 meters high “fontanella” defence tower with the well inside of it.

This tower is interesting also because it has the remains of the stairs that stand in the air above the well. The well has the family Soranzo coat of arm on it.
